In total 13498 foreign invested business entities from 112 countries have been registered in Mongolia between 1990-2016, generating 18.9 billion USD as Foreign Direct Investment inflow to Mongolia during that times. The sectors that attract most foreign investment are geology, mining (70%), oil industry and trade, bank, financial sectors and catering service sectors.
The first Foreign Investment Law in Mongolia was enacted in 1993. The law was appreciated by foreign investors and been renamed on the tittle of “the Investment law” in 2013. The Investment Law frames the general statutory and regulatory environment for all investors in Mongolia. According to the law, foreign investors can access the same investment opportunities and receive the same protections as domestic investors.
